Mark David Wyers and Ceyda Elgul
Mark David Wyers completed his BA in literature at the University of Tampa in Florida and his MA in Turkish Studies at the University of Arizona. From 2008 to 2013 he worked as the director of the Writing Center at Kadir Has University in Istanbul, during which time he wrote a book-length historical study titled “Wicked Istanbul”: The Regulation of Prostitution in the Early Turkish Republic, which drew upon his master’s thesis. Inspired by the translations he was doing for his research, he began translating Turkish literature into English. He has translated numerous novels from Turkish into English, and his translations of Turkish short stories have appeared in various journals and magazines.
Ceyda Elgül is an instructor of translation at BoÄŸaziçi University Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies. Her areas of interest are literary translation, transcreation, and historiography. She has published on Turkish translation history, Latin American literature, biography, and literary translation. She is the lead-organizer of the series of poetry translation workshops entitled “Island in Translation”.
