Ismat Chugtai (1911–1991) was a pioneering Indian Urdu writer, known for her bold and progressive works that challenged societal norms. She was a novelist, short story writer, and filmmaker, often exploring themes like female sexuality, gender dynamics, class conflict, and middle-class life. Her writing style was characterised by literary realism, and she became a significant voice in 20th-century Urdu literature.
