Monique Roffey
Monique Roffey is an award-winning Trinidadian-born writer. Her forthcoming erotic novel, The Tryst, will be published in the summer of 2017. Her novel House of Ashes (2014) was shortlisted for the COSTA Fiction Award, 2014, as well as the OCM BOCAS Award, 2015. Archipelago won the OCM BOCAS Award for Caribbean Literature in 2013 and was shortlisted for the Orion Award 2014. In 2010, her novel The White Woman on the Green Bicycle was shortlisted for the Orange Prize and the Encore Award and translated into five languages. Her erotic memoir, With the Kisses of his Mouth, caused controversy and critical acclaim in 2011. She is a Lecturer on the Novel MFA at Manchester Metropolitan University and has also taught creative writing and mentored emerging writers in Trinidad for several years, for COSTAATT, the Bocas Literature Festival, and privately in Port of Spain. An ex-centre director for The Arvon Foundation, she has also co-led writing retreats in Grande Riviere, Trinidad, in partnership with Mount Plaisir Estate and with fellow Caribbean writers Loretta Collins Klobah and Kei Miller, and with the Skyros Writers’ Lab. Since 2016, she has been teaching memoir writing for City University and working with women’s groups in Trinidad such as WomenSpeak. In 2017, she launches Wild Nights, an erotic book and film club in central London.
